We climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to fight the global clean water crisis. Climb up the 19,340 ft website to see what happened on the climb.
Official SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT Partners
Expedition Technology by HP Powered by Intel
HP joined SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro as the official technology partner to help Kenna and the entire team to bring clean water to those most in need. We share their belief that through greater
awareness, individuals can be inspired to effect change.
During the climb, the SUMMIT teams will use HP’s Thin and Light notebooks, powered by eco-friendly Intel® processors, to blog and share photos and videos from Mount Kilimanjaro on this website. The base
camp is outfitted with high-powered HP PCs to help track each climber’s progress, monitor weather conditions and capture every aspect of the climb. HP’s partnership with SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT enables the
climbers to encourage people around the world to actively participate in solving the clean water crisis.
Intel® believes that it takes more than money to make a difference in the world. That’s why they are getting directly involved, donating not just wealth and resources, but our time, knowledge and skills.
The lead- and halogen-free Intel® processors allow for faster computing that uses less energy, extends battery life and leaves a smaller environmental footprint on the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
HP technology, powered by Intel® processors, provides new views into the challenges our planet faces, along with tools for creating solutions both big and small.
Water Solutions By PUR
At PUR we believe everyone, everywhere, deserves clean drinking water. So we’re proud to support SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro by supplying financial support as well as PUR water filtration solutions.
To help bring clean water to the developing world, PUR developed the PUR Packet, which can transform 10 liters of dirty, contaminated water into clean, clear drinking water in about 30 minutes. These easy
to-ship packets were developed for the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program and are currently providing clean drinking water in developing countries around the world. Dr. Greg Allgood, the director
of the CSDW Program and the driving force behind the packets, will be joining the climbers as they ascend Mount Kilimanjaro.
Click here to see how the packets work.
PUR has developed filtration solutions that provide high-quality drinking water at home, saving money and sending water. And for every one of these systems purchased, we will donate one PUR Packet, which
can provide a day’s worth of clean water for an entire family.1 Through our partnership with the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, we’re on target to reach our goal of donating four billion liters of
water by 2012.
However, this is only the beginning. We hope that by coming together through programs like SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro, we can shine a spotlight on this crisis in order to eradicate it.

For each purchase of a PUR water filtration system, PUR will donate 10 cents to the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Fund.

Charitable Advising by The United Nations Foundation
The UN Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. The UN Foundation is an advocate for
the UN and a platform for connecting people, ideas and resources to help the United Nations solve global problems. We build partnerships, grow constituencies, mobilize resources and advocate policy changes
to support the UN’s work for individual and global progress. The UN Foundation’s work—focused on select global problems—is decreasing child mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting diverse cultures
and environments, creating a clean energy future, empowering women and girls and improving U.S.–UN relations.

Beneficiaries
Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program
The Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program is focused on reducing the sickness and deaths that result from diseases caused by contaminated drinking water. In 2004 Procter & Gamble created this
program to raise awareness of this significant global issue and to enable others to help them solve this problem.
P&G is committed to improving the lives of people around the globe, saving children’s lives and providing clean drinking water to as many people as possible. To date, working with partner organizations
such as PSI, World Vision, CARE, U.S. CDC, AmeriCares and Save the Children, the CSDW Program has delivered over 1.6 billion liters of clean drinking water to developing countries and emergency relief
situations across the globe. And we are committed to delivering a cumulative four billion liters by 2012.
Together we can make a difference.
Learn more at csdw.org.
Why We Chose Them:
Choosing the CSDW Program as a beneficiary of our efforts was an easy decision. Our goal for the climb has always been to work with brands and nonprofits that see their corporate vision as part of a whole.
Over the many years that we have come to depend on their products, P&G has proven that they see the big picture, understand the importance of corporate responsibility and have empowered their own
business to be part of the solution.
UN Refugee Agency
Water is often the difference between life and death for the 42 million people today who have been forced to flee their homes because of war and persecution—75 percent of whom are women and children. For
the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the provision of clean water and sanitation is fundamental to protecting and assisting refugees.
Over the last sixty years, the UNHCR has protected, assisted and helped rebuild the lives of millions of refugees, and is one of only two organizations recognized twice with the Nobel Peace Prize. Most of
the organization’s 6,000 staff members are positioned on the front lines of the most dramatic human situations, providing protection, shelter, water, food and education to some of the most vulnerable people
in our world today.
The UNHCR is very encouraged by the enthusiasm of the many people supporting SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro and is proud to benefit from their efforts. The water situation for refugees today is critical.
Currently, more than half the refugee camps, globally, fall short of the minimum water requirement of 20 liters of water per person a day.
SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro will help the UNHCR provide refugees in Ethiopia and Tanzania with life’s most vital necessity—access to clean drinking water.
Learn more at unhcr.org.
Why We Chose Them:
While helping to provide safe living conditions for millions of refugees, UNHCR is faced daily with the fact that there is not enough clean drinking water for the people under their care. They currently can
provide only 11 of the 20 liters of water that a person needs, daily, to live a healthy life. We want to help them meet their needs and educate a generation of people on the benefits of water sanitation for
their health. These refugees will go on to share their knowledge with the families and communities they build, creating a wave of change set into motion by the SUMMIT team.
PlayPumps International
PlayPumps International’s mission is to help improve the lives of children and their families by providing easy access to clean drinking water, enhancing public health and offering play equipment to millions of people across Africa.
PlayPumps International is a 501(c)(3) organization in the U.S. that fundraises to provide schools and communities throughout Africa with an innovative, uniquely sustainable, free supply of clean drinking water. It strives to bring joy and play into the lives of African children, better health for millions and to achieve the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals.
To date, PlayPumps International has donated more than 1,200 PlayPumps water systems in South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Swaziland and Zambia. Over the next few years, additional PlayPump water systems will be installed throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with the goal of reaching millions of people.
Learn more at playpumps.org.
Why We Chose Them:
It is said that if you empower a child, you build a future. PlayPump’s focus is on the children and their families who are struggling to survive and grow without access to clean drinking water. PlayPumps brings water solutions into communities that need to travel to find a reliable source of clean water and allows children to get an education and create healthy, bright futures in their own backyards—helping young lives thrive.
For The Greater Good
FTGG is a social profit organization with a mission to heighten awareness for global issues through engaging events and projects. The organization is designed to raise funds supporting the efforts of fellow 501(c)(3) organizations dedicated to our youth and their sustainable future. FTGG encourages actions “For The Greater Good.”
FTGG believes the best way to find effective solutions to ongoing global issues is to give non-governmental organizations a chance to see how they create complete, sustainable programs delivering real results. When the force of many efforts becomes the strength of one powerful movement, the rates of success skyrocket.
FTGG will launch its first awareness campaign around the Global Clean Water Crisis with SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro. The Rooftop of Africa will be our global soap box. A moment of silence and reflection will not need translation for the ears of the world. Our journey, our sacrifices and our dedication to the cause will be heard by the masses.
