SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: The 19,340 ft Website

We climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to fight the global clean water crisis. Climb up the 19,340 ft website to see what happened on the climb.

Kenna

For Grammy®-nominated artist Kenna, creating SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT was necessary. The project all really started with a conversation between him and his father about the dire water crisis happening around the world and in his homeland of Ethiopia. With the desire to do more than just give back, Kenna is taking it a stride further and asking his friends and future generations to step up to the plate and take responsibility for the world we live in. SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro represents the first of many efforts to set an example and create real change.

Lupe Fiasco

Inspired by Kenna’s vision and passion to affect change, Grammy®-nominated artist Lupe Fiasco was one of the first to commit to the project. Lupe feels strongly about addressing the issues affecting young adults on a global scale. It will be the story of his journey that will inspire others the way Kenna has inspired him.

Kick Kennedy

Kick Kennedy is a granddaughter of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the eldest daughter of environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. She is a student at Stanford University, where she is majoring in history with an emphasis on literature and the arts. Kick’s passion is travel. She and her father recently embarked on a white-water rafting trip down the Colorado River with their friends Wade Davis, a noted anthropologist, and his daughter, Tara. Their adventures were documented in the IMAX film Grand Canyon Adventures, produced by MacGillivray-Freeman. The film helps raise awareness for the world water crisis and the importance of water conservation. Following her family’s footsteps, Kick interned for her “Uncle Ted on the Hill”—the late Senator Ted Kennedy, that is. And, as part of a work-study program for school, she is currently interning at Rolling Stone magazine, where she hopes to hone her skills as a future journalist. Kick is an ambassador for the Waterkeeper Alliance, the global organization connecting and supporting Waterkeeper programs on six continents to provide a voice for waterways and their communities (waterkeeper.org). More related to her area of interest, Kick is an active supporter of Riverkeeper (riverkeeper.org/), the organization dedicated to the protection and ecological integrity of the Hudson River and its tributaries, and to safeguarding the drinking water supply of New York City and the lower Hudson Valley. The Warner Bros. film is set for release February 12, 2010. For many years, Biel has been involved in finding ways to give back. What drew her to SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro is the personal, mental and physical challenge all of the participants will endure for change. "This is a basic human necessity that needs to be addressed now," Biel said in a statement, adding that she's proud to climb Kilimanjaro "to help any way I can in order to raise awareness toward the life-threatening clean water crisis happening not only in Africa but around the world." Biel is active with the Make the Difference Network, an online organization that she started with her father, Jon Biel. Through MTDN, Biel has become involved in such charities as Serving Those Who Serve, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Isabel hopes her participation will help raise public awareness of the world water crisis.

Michael Muller

Over the past two decades, photographer Michael Muller’s images have regularly landed on the pages of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Interview, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Flaunt, and Time. A tireless chronicler of popular culture, Muller captures his subjects with a contagious mixture of spontaneity and formal grace. Sometimes black, white and grainy, at other times supersaturated to the point of glistening, blazing across the frame or staged and timeless, Muller has built a deep and diverse body of work by refusing to anchor his oeuvre to a single signature look, insisting instead on getting the shot that speaks most fully to the essence of the subject at hand and the possibilities of the moment. Michael’s images continue to be forged through the lens, both on the edge and on the job, guided not just by one man’s obsessions, appetites and passions, but also by his desire to fully realize himself as a visual craftsman, adventurer, husband, father and artist.
